Software updates on DAS-2

• 03-03-2005:
  The statistical modeling pacakge 'R' has been installed on DAS2 in /usr/local/UvA/R.
  A symlink to the 'R' binary has been added to /usr/local/bin, so it will automatically be in your PATH.



• 03-12-2004:
  New versions of the C, C++ and Fortran 90/95 Intel compilers, release 8.1, are now installed in /usr/local/intel/compiler81.
  To use this compiler, you need a few extra environment settings by sourcing file /usr/local/intel/compiler81/bin/ifortvars.$SHELL.


• 07-06-2004:
  The latest stable release (3.2) of Globus has been installed on DAS-2.
  Documentation for this release is available from the Globus site.
  To switch over to the new release, environment variable GLOBUS_LOCATION should be set to /usr/local/globus/globus-3.2, and the script $GLOBUS_LOCATION/etc/globus-user-env.$SHELL should be sourced in your login session. This can also be achieved by simply logging in again; all necessary environment setting will then be done by default.
  Note that only the stable "pre-webservices" parts of 3.2 are installed, making it compatible with the previous Globus Toolkit 2.2.4 release. The largely experimental "webservices"-based Grid protocols, which also are an optional part of 3.2, are not installed in this case. Standards compliant webservices implementations of Grid protocols are still being worked on, and they will probably become available in the course of next year.


• 31-03-2004:
  New versions of the C, C++ and Fortran 90/95 Intel compilers, release 8.0, are now installed in /usr/local/intel/compiler80.
  This is the full version with official support by Intel.
  To use this compiler, you need a few extra environment settings by sourcing file /usr/local/intel/compiler80/bin/ifortvars.$SHELL.
  You should use the mpicc, mpiCC, mpif90 and mpif77 scripts from /usr/local/mpich/mpich-gm-intel/bin to compile for MPI over Myrinet.


• 16-02-2004:
  New versions of the C, C++ and Fortran 90/95 Intel compilers, release 7.0, are now installed in /usr/local/intel/compiler70.


• 05-06-2003:
  The Java and Python CoG ("Comodity Grid") kits for Globus are now installed in /usr/local/globus/globus-2.2.4/java and /usr/local/globus/globus-2.2.4/python.


• 16-04-2003:
  GCC compiler set in /usr/local/bin updated to latest stable version 3.2.2, fixing C++ compiler problems.


• 03-04-2003:
  Versions of the C, C++ and Fortran 90/95 Intel compilers, release 6.0, are now installed in /usr/local/intel/compiler60.
  This is the free academic version, without support by Intel.
  To use this compiler, you need a few extra environment settings by sourcing file /usr/local/intel/compiler60/ia32/bin/ifcvars.$SHELL.


• 27-03-2003:
  MPICH-G2 (MPI for Globus) upgraded to latest stable version 1.2.5.1a.
  This new release supports communication over Myrinet on the local clusters.
  Links to default versions (e.g., "mpich-g2-gm-gcc" and "mpich-g2-ip-gcc") were also updated in /usr/local/mpich.


• 26-03-2003:
  Globus Grid software updated to latest stable version 2.2.4.


• 18-03-2003:
  MPICH-GM (MPI for Myrinet) upgraded to latest stable version 1.2.5.1a.
  Links to default versions (e.g., "mpich-gm") are also updated in /usr/local/mpich.
  Note: due to a new startup mechanism the cpu allocation for SMP jobs may be different from before (cpus on the same node will be allocated with an MPI rank next to each other). For examples, see the DAS-2 scheduler page.
