Threads on DAS-2

Pthreads

Linux, the operating system of DAS-2, supports the standard Posix thread package pthreads. In this implementation, each Posix thread is mapped on its own kernel thread, making it in principle suitable for SMP nodes.

Another interesting development is the construction of the ngpt threading package, which supports a mix of kernel- and user-based threads for (potentially) increased efficiency. As soon as this package can be considered stable, it will be installed as an alternative Pthreads implementation on DAS-2.
