What is a Chatterbot?

A Chatterbot is a program that attempts to simulate typed conversation. It's responses are all programmed, but when questioning the same question twice, his answers can be different. Chatterbots are related to the field of Natural Language, which is related to Artificial Intelligence.

When you try one of the top chatterbots (on the left), you'll notice the development is already quite far. Normal conversations can be held, although sometimes you may get a bit of a strange answer. But hey, who says humans don't?

Like any person chatterbots seem to have a sort of personality which is expressed by their answers. You'll notice that when chatting with a chatterbot, or reading one of the chatlogs (see Funny Conversations).
