Large-Scale Electronic Messaging

Many electronic messaging systems exist in the world, often using different hardware and software.
People connected to one electronic messaging system often want to communicate with people attached to a different one.
This desire requires connecting together different, and frequently incompatible electronic messaging systems like: E-mail, I-mode, USENET news, instant messaging systems, and SMS.

Large-scale electronic messaging research is rethinking the messaging model such that existing systems can be integrated transparently into a unifying framework or unified messaging system.

In this research, we concentrate on the design, implementation, and validation of a unified messaging system that can efficiently handle worldwide exchange of billions of messages per day, between billions of users.
In addition, this exchange should be secure and completely under control of receivers.
Users should be able to controle the receipt of their messages anytime and anywhere.
