For Master and Bachelor projects see the Blackboard page of the Intelligent Information Systems group. Assignments are available in the domain of Interactive TV [1] and Cultural Hertiage [2], [3] with focus on:

  • Personalization - user and context modeling in distributed and ubiquitous environments
  • Recommender systems - personalized TV guides, personalized museum tours, etc.
  • Semantic Web - ontologies, vocabularies and reasoning for user and context modeling, and recommender systems
  • Human Computer Interaction - experimental methods, usability studies
  • Tagging, Folksonomies and Multimedia Annotation - video annotation games, communities, general users and professionals, user generated content

  • NoTube Project - Making Television More Personal - exploring television's future in the ubiquitous Web; in collaboration with BBC, RAI, Thomson, others
  • PrestoPrime Project: in collaboration with Sound & Vision, BBC, RAI, others
  • Agora Project: Eventing your History - exploring semantics in modeling historical events as part of a social platform for cultural heritage organizations; in collaboration with Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, Sound & Vision.

Short CV

In 1996 I received my M.Sc in Mathematics and Computer Science from Sofia University in Bulgaria. I worked for a year at the same university as a project assistant and moved in 1997 to the University of Twente in The Netherlands, where I became a PhD student at the department of Educational Science and Technology in the field of adaptive information retrieval for web-based education. In 2001 I was granted a PhD on a thesis entitled "Task-based approach to information handling support with web-based education". Shortly after my PhD I accepted a position as assistant professor at Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands. In 2005 I became an associate member of the Multimedia and Human-Computer Interaction Group of CWI in Amsterdam, where I spent on average one day per week.
