International Workshop on Personalization in iTVAccepted papers |

Personalisation for Interactive TV gains more and more attention both in the broadcasting world as well as in the scientific community. The field of Web information systems, user-adaptive systems and semantic web are currently exploring the possibilities to provide appropriate technologies for digital and integrated access to distributed broadcasting material over IP and traditional channels. The notion of cross-media and personalization are gaining considerable attention in both fields and are main driving force in order to achieve a true user-centered ambient experience for TV users in their interaction with multiple content sources and presentation devices (e.g. mobile, web and traditional TV screens). Personalization capitalizes on a user-centered interactive information exchange between various service and content providers in the context of ambient TV. The typical passive one-way inteaction of TV viewers with their TVs turns into a dialogue and personalization is a new communication strategy based on a continuous process of learning and adaptation between the users and the content and service providers. Currently, there are already various initiatives by broadcasting companies, international TV channels and network providers both on the web and via the broacasting channel to meet the needs of the individual user. Personalization could improve the usability of TV tools and programs by supporting users' navigation and assisting them in quickly finding an appropriate starting point and to discover new relevant information on TV. In this process, the systems consider users' personal characteristics, such as age, education, previous knowledge (when available), together with the watching behavior. The workshop will focus on the specific challenges of personalization in a cross-media setting and exploring novel ideas for coping with these challenges. |
