Introduction to Spatial Probability Models
In this course, we will mainly discuss sandpile models (Ronald Meester) and the
Ising model (Wouter Kager). Along the
way, we will also come across some interacting
particle systems.
Material
The first part of the lectures on sandpile
models will be based on the introductory paper which you can view and download here. The second part will be based on two papers
which you can download from here and here.

March 4 (RM), March 11 (RM), March 18 (WK);

May 13 (RM).
Examination
The exam will be in the form of a take-home exam. The exam will be posted
on Friday, may 20, 2011. The
hand-written solutions should be delivered before the end of the month. The
exam will be posted on the webpage of Wouter Kager, namely www.few.vu.nl/~wkager/lectures.
