Probability and Statistics
On this webpage, I will provide information about the course. For further questions and remarks, please contact me at rmeester@few.vu.nl.
MATERIAL
We will use the book Statistical
reasoning for everyday life, by Bennett, Briggs and Triola (Addison
Wesley), 3rd edition. In
particular, we will treat Chapters 4-10.1 (inclusive).
EXAM
There will be a written exam at the end of the course, on May 26, 2009; 12.00-14.45. The second exam is on August 25, 2009; 12.00-14.45. Basic calculators are allowed at the exam; a graphical calculator is not allowed. You find the exams of last year by clicking here and here.
COURSE SCHEDULE
The following schedule of the 7
meetings we have is tentative; it is very well possible that I will deviate
from this. I will announce such deviations later. I also indicate which
exercises are discussed/treated/done in each week. It is wise to actually do
more exercises for yourself, during class or at home - the book contains many
additional exercises.
