David Prins

David Prins The Dutch director David Prins studied the 'cello at the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague. He was solo cellist with the Dutch Student Orchestra (NSO) and the Netherlands Theatre Orchestra. He performed in Holland and elsewhere with ensembles like Promenade-orkest, Residentie-orkest, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Nieuw Ensemble, and Toneelgroep Baal (a theatre company).
He was assistant stage director with Harry Kupfer, Peter Mussbach, Boris Pokrovski, Peter Sellars, Gian-Carlo del Monaco, Brigitte Fassbaender and Erik Vos. In the Holland Festival 1995, David Prins adapted the staging of Die Zauberflöte for John Eliot Gardiner for performance in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. He worked with various companies, a.o. the Netherlands Opera or Opera Forum, in numerous productions, like Don Giovanni, Dido and Aeneas, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Wozzeck, La Bohème, and Macbeth. Moreover, David Prins cooperated with Peter Mussbach in staging Idomeneo, Rè di Creta for the Netherlands Opera.
He made his own stagings of the operas Dido and Aeneas, Tosca, Andriessen's Spiegel van Venetië, and Menotti's The Medium, and theatre productions like The Chairs (Ionesco), Sandbox (Albee) and Woyzeck (Büchner). He worked with various productions of the Nederlandse Reisopera, Opera Zuid, and the New Israeli Opera. In 1995, he made his debut with the Staatstheater Braunsweig with La Traviata, and in this season he staged Tosca there. David Prins is a regular guest teacher for music drama at the Conservatories of Music in Rotterdam, Amsterdam and The Hague.
His future projects include (besides Idomeneo for the VU Chamber Orchestra) staging of a Mozart Opera for the Conservatories of Music in The Hague and Amsterdam, and a cooperation with Erik Vos for Katja Kabanova as assistant stage director/choreographer for the Nationale Reisopera.
