The GlobeSoul project is a collection of (related) research activities in the Computer Systems group concerning peer-to-peer networks. We are strongly collaborating with the Parallel and Distributed Systems group at the Technical University of Delft. The aim of GlobeSoul is to obtain a better understanding of how P2P technology can be used to build large-scale distributed systems. An important application is Globule, a user-centric content delivery network that is completely decentralized and based on user-provided Web servers. We are currently looking at various issues, including scalable epidemics (by means of newscast computing), superpeers, and decentralized clustering. Since a few years we have started to concentrate on sensor networks, as part of our collaboration with DevLab. An extensive, and growing, list of peer-to-peer papers is maintained by Johan Pouwelse. For those interested in experimenting with (variations) of Newscast, you may want to check out a simulator developed by Tomek Pylak as part of his Masters project.
