Session 1 (9.00–10.00 am): The why and where of publishing
• Introduction
• Activity 1: reasons for publication and setting personal objectives
• Appraisal of journals: journal metrics and finding the right journal for your work
• Activity 2: who do you want to influence? Finding a suitable journal – individual/paired activity 


Session 2 (10.05 am–10:55 am): Publishing with impact 


• What makes a great research paper and knowing when you can publish
• Your research and its context; explaining the motivation for your project
• Activity 3: articulating the research question for your paper
• Protocols and ethics of publication
• Activity 4 scenario exercise 


Session 3 (11.05–12.00 pm): Editorial processes and responding to referees 


• Pre-submission checklist and cover letter
• The role of the Editor
• Activity 5: ‘Editor for a Day’
• Responding to referee reports; options if rejected
• Acceptance and pre-publication process
• Review of learnings and action plan for the future
• Opportunities for questions and feedback
