Photos of India

This sequence of 139 photographs was taken in India in January 2004 in the states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Maharastra. The camera was a Nikon D100 camera equipped with a Nikon 24-120 VR lens. Due to the small (16 x 24 mm) sensor on the D100, the effective focal length of the lens was 36-180 mm. The photos were digitally transferred to a Pentium 4 and postprocessed with Photoshop 6.0. India is a vast and diverse country and even visiting only three states is overwhelming. I took over 2000 photos in under 3 weeks. These 139 are thus less than 10% of what I shot. Contradictions abound: great beauty and horrible ugliness, tremendous wealth and abject poverty, super modern and extremely traditional. The only constant was the friendliness of the people everywhere I went. In these photos I have attempted to capture India as I saw it, the good, the bad, and the ugly. I hope you enjoy them.
