Adaptive High-Performance Distributed Multimedia Computing

Research Team

The core of the JADE-MM research team consists of eight members, three of which are paid from the NWO GLANCE project (643.000.602). The eight project members together cover the 3 main research themes underlying the project: multimedia content analysis, mathematical modeling, and Grid computing.

Multimedia Content Analysis - University of Amsterdam

The research area of multimedia content analysis is represented by 2 researchers from the Intelligent Systems Lab Amsterdam (ISLA), Faculty of Science, University of Amsterdam (UvA):

  • Prof. dr. ir. Arnold W.M. Smeulders - Project Leader
  • Drs. Fangbin Liu - PhD Student

  • Mathematical Modeling - Vrije Universiteit and CWI

The research area of mathematical modeling is represented by 3 researchers from the Vrije Universiteit (VU) and the Center for Mathematics and Computer Science (CWI), both in Amsterdam:

  • Prof. dr. Ger M. Koole
  • Prof. dr. Rob D. van der Mei
  • Drs. Ran Yang - PhD Student

  • Grid Computing - Vrije Universiteit

Finally, the field of Grid computing is represented by 3 researchers from the Computer Systems Group, Faculty of Sciences, Vrije Universiteit (VU), Amsterdam:

  • Prof. dr. ir. Henri E. Bal
  • Dr.-Ing habil. Thilo Kielmann
  • Dr. Frank J. Seinstra - Postdoctoral Researcher

  • Additional Expertise

Additional expertise is used directly as input to the project. Our list of 'external' experts consists of the following researchers:

  • Dr. Jan-Mark Geusebroek (UvA, multimedia content analysis)
  • Dr. Dennis Koelma (UvA, multimedia content analysis)
  • Dr. Cees G.M. Snoek (UvA, multimedia content analysis)
  • Drs. Dennis Roubos (VU, mathematical modeling)
  • Dr. Sandjai Bhulai (VU, mathematical modeling)
  • Drs. Niels Drost (VU, Grid computing)
  • Dr. Jason Maassen (VU, Grid computing)
